Amazing Afghani Mutton Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1kg mutton, diced (FreshToHome Premium Tender Goat recommended)
  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 2 large onions, finely sliced
  • 4 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 cup plain yoghurt
  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 teaspoons Afghani spice blend 
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • Salt, as needed
  • Fresh cilantro leaves, chopped
  • Fresh mint leaves, chopped
  • Saffron strands, soaked in warm milk

Cooking Instructions for Afghani Mutton

Creating
Afghani Mutton Masala
Combine 1 tablespoon ground cumin and 1 tablespoon ground coriander. In it add 1 teaspoon of red chilli powder. Add a pinch of salt to a bowl. Mix well to create your own Afghani spice blend.

Marinating the Mutton
In a bowl, combine yoghurt and ginger-garlic paste. Add Afghani spice blend, ground cumin, ground coriander, red chilli powder to it. Lastly, add salt to create a marinade.

Add diced mutton to the marinade. Ensure it’s well coated. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours. Allow the flavours to meld.

Cooking the Mutton
Heat vegetable oil in a pan. Sauté finely sliced onions until golden brown.

Add marinated mutton along with the marinade to the pan. Cook until the mutton is tender and the sauce thickens. Adjust seasoning to taste. Garnish with fresh cilantro and mint.
